An event in honor of the Guardians of the Oritā Program

Monday, 19.5.25 // 12:00

“Guardians of the Oritā” is a program led by the Department of Biblical Studies at the Rosenberg School of Jewish Studies and Archaeology at Tel Aviv University, in collaboration with the Koret Center for Jewish Civilization. The program explores the sacred texts of Beta Israel, focusing both on their ancient manuscripts and the living oral traditions of prayer, translation, and interpretation passed down through generations by the Kessim – the spiritual leaders of Ethiopian Jewry.

In the story of the Orita, still so much is hidden from view – for members of the community, the broader Israeli public, and the world of research alike. Within the program, students engage in the research and preservation of important religious texts.

During the month of May, the Orit Scroll of Kes Abba Yitzhak Aysu will be displayed at the Hallelujah Gallery at ANU – Museum of the Jewish People – for three weeks only. Do not miss it!
