“Maria Rozanova. Syntax”: A film by Elena Yakovich (in Russian)

Wednesday, 3.12.25 at 19:00

Part of the “Resistance” series, marking the centenary of Andrei Sinyavsky and Yuli Daniel.

The film tells the story of Maria Rozanova, the wife and spiritual partner of Andrei Sinyavsky in their struggle for creative freedom. The Sinyavsky-Daniel trial in the 1960s symbolized the beginning of the resistance movement in the Soviet Union. Following their imprisonment, the couple moved to Paris, where their home in Fontenay-aux-Roses became a cultural center for Russian exiles.

For thirty years, Rozanova edited the journal Sintaksis (“Syntax”), which became a vital platform for free Russian literature. In the film, she reflects on her life, Sinyavsky, Daniel, and Vladimir Vysotsky, accompanied by rare footage from their private archive.

The screening will be attended by the filmmaker, Elena Yakovich, and Yuli’s son – historian and human rights activist Alexander Daniel.
