In honor of Joseph Brodsky’s 85th birthday: A film by Yelena Yakovich and Alexey Shishov. Special guest – international actress Ksenia Rappoport.
On May 24, 2025, Joseph Brodsky would have turned 85. To mark this date, the documentary film “Walking with Brodsky” by Yelena Yakovich and Alexey Shishov will be screened. International actress Ksenia Rappoport will specially read Brodsky’s “Twenty Sonnets to Mary Stuart” for this evening. Director Yelena Yakovich will talk about her meeting with Brodsky and behind the scenes of the film’s shooting.
The film features his poem about life and gratitude, recited on one of the bridges in Venice.
In November 1993, Yakovich and Shishov spent five days with Brodsky in Venice filming the documentary, which won the TEFI Award in 1995. Venice was his favorite city, and he is buried there in the San Michele cemetery.
“Walking with Brodsky” became a personal confession: wanderings, conversations about life, about Russia and about himself, and poems — all preserved his voice and thoughts in his native language, which deepen with time.
