The term “Bukharan Jewry” pertains to the Jewish communities of Central Asia – present-day Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan – and derives from the name of the Emirate of Bukhara, which existed in this area from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth century.
